$221,358. Yeah. Read That Again.
Form Follows Fitness 5K 2026 just dropped a number that pushed their lifetime total past $2 million — and this Saturday, they're presenting the check.
Back in February, Eric Lindberg gave me a call.
“Chris, want to bring DFW Running Talk to Form Follows Fitness 2026?”
I didn’t even pretend to think about it. I’ve been running this race for years. It’s one of those Dallas mornings you actually circle on the calendar — the kind where you’re running past the West End and through the Arts District and you genuinely look up between strides because the skyline is doing something for you. So getting to bring a mic to it? Easy yes.
I spent that morning grabbing quick hits with runners across the field — the overall men’s and women’s winners, costumed crews, first-timers, folks who’ve run it every year since the start. Different paces, same love for this race. If you missed those clips when they dropped in February, they’re still up — I’ll embed a few below, above and other places in this newsletter.
What I didn’t fully grasp back then — and what hit me when the media note landed in my inbox this week — was just how much this race actually moves.
$221,358.07.
That’s what the 2026 race generated for The Architecture and Design Foundation. Third-highest fundraising total in the event’s history. And with that check, Form Follows Fitness has now crossed $2 million in lifetime charitable impact.
Two. Million. Dollars. From a 5K.
The 15th anniversary year set records across the board — 3,973 registrations, $308,000 in sponsorship revenue, 184 industry teams toeing the line. Architects, engineers, builders, planners, and a whole lot of runners who just love this city.
This Saturday — the check presentation
If you’re free Saturday morning, this is worth showing up for. I can’t be there myself, but here’s the rundown:
Saturday, May 16 — Community Beer Company 3110 Commonwealth Dr., Dallas, TX 75247
8:15–8:30 a.m. — Ceremonial check presentation, scholarship and fellowship recipients recognized
8:35 a.m. — Air horn sounds, runners and walkers kick off the first official monthly social run leading into the 2027 race season
These social runs continue the third Saturday of every month through January 2027. Free, fun, and a great excuse to get architecture-adjacent miles in your weekend rotation.
Where the money actually goes
This is the part I didn’t know enough about until I started asking questions back in February. The Architecture and Design Foundation isn’t just a name on a banner. They run Designing My Future, a camp series introducing kids ages 6 to 18 to architecture, engineering, and construction through hands-on learning. They award $40,000 to $60,000 a year in scholarships, fellowships, and research grants. They run LEGO build days, walking tours of Dallas neighborhoods, and exhibitions that get people thinking about why their city looks the way it looks.
Most of it free or low-cost. Specifically so families across every income level can show up.
So when you run Form Follows Fitness, you’re not just running a pretty course. You’re literally putting a first-generation college kid into an architecture program. That’s wild.
Lock in 2027
Saturday, February 20, 2027 — Klyde Warren Park. Registration is already open at formfollowsfitness.com. Mark it. Run it. You’ll thank me.
Huge thanks
To Eric Lindberg for the invite back in February 2026 and for running one of the most thoughtful events in this city. To Patrick and Briar Glenn for dreaming this up 16 years ago and never letting go of it. To Norman Alston and the entire Architecture and Design Foundation team. To Blackson Brick as Master Builder sponsor, and to every Tradesman Level partner — C1S Group, Corgan, Curtainwall Design & Consulting, Glenn Partners, LA Fuess Structural Engineers, Merriman MAA, Stantec, and Whiting-Turner.
If you’re heading out Saturday, take a photo for me. I’ll be cheering from afar.
